Hi, my name is Christina Bartsch and I am a currently in my last year of studying my Bachelor in Public Health in Health Promotion and Public Nutrition. I have been working in the Health Food industry for the past four years. From working in the health and wellbeing industry I developed a great passion holistic and preventive health. Morlife encouraged me to study Public Health Promotion and Public health Nutrition and have been really supportive throughout my degree. I started at Morlife in 2013 though my position within the company has changed over the years, I started in the Administration department and moved to Promotions and Sales. The main duties for my job include, promoting health food products, increasing sales and educating on the features and benefits of functional foods. I also conduct interviews for potential employees and run training sessions for new employees and business owners. I have also travelled both nationally and internationally to represent my company at various health expositions and seminars. In January 2017, I was fortunate enough to obtain a three week placement opportunity in Northern Thailand. The main purpose was to conduct a needs assessment of a remote village in the Northern Hill Tribes, Pa Pae. I worked with a team of 5 other students from Public Health and Occupational Therapy gathering data through both qualitative and quantitative research. We were fortunate enough to be living in the community, allowing us to engage with the leaders of the village. We found many different health issues within Pa Pae, however we focused on three main issues including, water sanitation, waste disposal and basic hygiene skills. As part of our placement we created and designed programs surrounding the health issues and implemented these strategies in the village. We were able to evaluate the implementation results and make recommendations for Challenges abroad’s future programs. Through my placement I have gained excellent teamwork, research, program planning and implementation skills. Through my study at Griffith University I have learnt in depth about the different types of social, environmental and individual determinants surrounding impacting ones health. I really enjoyed subjects that included qualitative and quantitative research, needs assessments, program planning, implementation and evaluation. I strongly believe that it is important to help people make the “healthier choice, the easier choice” and will strive to do my best in doing so. I would love to work in an organisation which allows me to use my skills and knowledge to better health outcomes for individuals and communities.
